How to Maintain Your New Blinds
You’ve invested in some new Venetians or roller blinds and they look great. However, now you need to know how to maintain your new blinds. Here are some of our top tips to ensure your commercial or residential blinds are kept looking as good as new.
Maintenance For Roller Blinds
Roller blinds are available in a range of fabrics including wipe easy-clean performance material. Even if your roller blinds aren’t made out of specialist fabric, you will still be able to maintain them quite easily.
To remove dust and small stains, simply let your roller blinds down fully and wipe with a damp cloth. For stubborn stains, we recommend using a suitable stain removal product. It is also important to keep in mind that the treated area of fabric may appear brighter than the surrounding blind after cleaning.
Maintenance For Venetian Blinds
As the slats of Venetian blinds often hang horizontally, they are more likely to gather dust than other shading products. Because of this, they will require regular cleaning to keep them looking prestine. However, the method you use will change according to whether you have wooden or aluminium Venetian blinds.
Wooden Veneitan Blinds
Real wooden Venetian blinds will require a more delicate approach therefore it is important that you avoid water and liquid cleaning products. This can risk warping the wood so it is advised to simply use a duster or vacuum with a brush attachment.
If you do need to remove difficult stains, make sure to rub gently using a damp cloth and then dry thoroughly once the stain is removed.
Aluminium Venetian Blinds
These blinds are more resistant than wood and can be cleaned using a mild detergent. This could be anything from window spray to washing up liquid. Before doing this, you should gently remove any visible stains and dry with a paper towel. Then, it is important to switch your blinds to the closed position as this makes it easier to clean all parts of the blind. Once you have finished this side, make sure to repeat on the other side.
You can also use a vacuum on a low suction setting with an upholstery attachment to remove dust. Doing this can help to prevent your blinds from bending or becoming scratched.
